Grab an umbrella, soak in a true talent” (says Olympia’s Weekly Volcano) as Southern singer-songwriter Joanne Rand and Seattle legend Reggie Garrett team up in Seattle’s famed Royal Room. The show celebrates Rand’s 14th indie CD, “Still a Real World” and Garrett’s fifth “Something New.” Rand and Garrett have performed together since 1995. Rand will be accompanied by Seattle’s top bassist Rebecca Young and Garrett by his well-loved band the Snake Oil Peddlers (Richard Middleton and Will Dowd).

Reggie Garrett is the purveyor of a unique urban strain of acoustic folk music incorporating a number of diverse influences, including: latin rhythms, blues, gospel and Celtic. The result is a musical blend that has excited and touched audiences throughout the U.S. and Canada. He has been compared to acoustic legends Richie Havens and Bill Withers by the national folk publication “Dirty Linen.” As a songwriter Garrett’s specialty is creating and enhancing a mood. “Garrett’s voice is, itself, an utterly unique instrument. A tremulous warm cry from the heart.” – Victory Music Review. Having graced stages throughout the US and Canada for over twenty years, Garrett was the hit of the Sisters Folk Festival (a Superior U.S. festival).

Touring nationally for 30 years, and voted best acoustic band in Sonoma County, Joanne Rand has appeared with Bonnie Raitt, Bob Weir, John Hartford, etc. She "continues to push the art pedal to the floor," releasing her 14th CD, "Still a Real World" which features acclaimed Manhattan violinist Jenny Sheinman. “I spent most of this past year focusing on my songwriting.” says Rand “Honing lyrics while swimming laps every morning, The stories are about true life - story-songs about Greyhound bus characters I've seen, a tribute to my Grandfather born in 1890, a song about Einstein....songs about love, marriage and teenage mutiny, legends of vanished Indian tribes and evolution, rally cries to get you through the day.” Rand recently earned a BFA in Music Composition and her 2010 CD release was submitted for Grammy nomination by San Francisco Recording Academy’s President. You can't keep this woman down, her last five CDs were released in the past five consecutive years and she continues to tour the U.S. from her home in Northern California where she is now crafting her 15th recording and coaching teen performers.
