Tickets $10 advance/ $12 at the door/ $8 students (door only with student ID)

Miles Davis didn’t have a lot of nice things to say about most people, but he greatly admired both of these composers and musicians. Miles spoke highly of Jamal’s “concept of space….his understatement”. Of Zawinul, Miles took it a little more out and stated in his liner notes for “Zawinul”: “In order to write this kind of music you have to be free inside yourself and be Josef Zawinul with two beige kids, a black wife, two pianos, from Vienna, a Cancer, and ‘Cliché-free.’”

Featuring Alex Guilbert, Gus Carns, Nelda Swigett and Eric Verlinde.

The Piano Starts Here series concludes the 2015 year with these two favored artists.

Piano Starts Here highlights the work of some of the most prolific and talented jazz composers and pianists to ever tackle the instrument, hosted and curated by pianists Tim Kennedy and Wayne Horvitz.
