Queers have always been witches. We are healers, spell casters, shape shifters and magicians. We pull our lives out of a hat. The world calls this a trick, a farce, a phony, a sparkling sleight of hand. We must know our lives are gloriously true and bravely our own. We must repeat this over and over under our breath, a spell for survival.
GAY WITCH is a multi-arts showcase of intersectional queer magic. It is a celebration, a remedy, an invocation and an altar* to lift up resilience, rage and love.

*A note on altars, from the producers: The word altar comes from the latin altus, meaning high, and in our ritual practice, an altar is a physical place to raise high/lift up the focus of a ritual. Altar-making has a place in many different traditions. Our use of it comes from Earth-based witch traditions and Jewish practices like the bimah in a synagogue, the raised area where the Torah lives. Throughout our ritual work, we are bringing an awareness of how cultural appropriation and white supremacy manifest in queer/witch/ritual/arts spaces. We resist this by learning about the specific histories of practices we witness, questioning our own perspectives, receiving feedback and offering ritual as one cultural strategy in dismantling oppression. In GAY WITCH, performers are invoking practices from their own lineages, with care and authenticity.
