GROWING SCHOOLYARD FARMS with Duover, Fair Weather Watchers, Queued Up, The Lonesome Billies

Tue, Jun 12, 2012 at 9pm

This event has passed.

Right after the always-insightful InFarmation at Holocene on June 12 at 9 p.m., four local bands will rock out in the name of food and farming! Kicking things off will be the ever-charming folk duo, Duover (featuring Nathan Junior from M. Ward and Fruit Bats fame). Fair Weather Watchers will ease us forward with their folk-pop styling’s while power poppers Queued Up and country twangers The Lonesome Billies will take things out with a bang. Between bands, noted local DJ Bob Ham will spin records from his deep within his crates of goodies.

We need your help so we can grow food for schools! We invite you to Growing Schoolyard Farms: a night of local music to fund school-based farms.

A little about us

We are starting a brand new nonprofit that promotes healthy communities by way of healthy food. We are farming three-quarters of an acre at Candy Lane Elementary School, where we will provide fresh, nutritious produce to our neighboring community while offering educational programs like farm-based Summer Camp for students. One day we envision a farm in every schoolyard that will feed its school. But in order for our dream to come true we need your support! Finding startup capital for small farms from lending organizations is difficult, so we’re reaching out to you, our community, to help raise enough money to get us off the ground!

By supporting Schoolyard Farms you will be

* Funding Summer Camp Scholarships for low-income children
* Subsidizing CSA Shares for families in need
* Investing in farm infrastructure, like; drip irrigation, hand-scale tools, locally grown seed, amendments, a scale, etc., etc.!

How you can support us

100% of ticket sales will go toward funding Schoolyard Farms’ programs and infrastructure.

We will also be selling grab-bags at the event. Each hand screen-printed tote will contain surprises donated by local retailers. Some of the awesome surprises include: $100 gift certificate to Bogs Footwear; a custom sweatshirt from Stay Lifted; one-night stay at Hood River Hotel; a year’s supply of milk from Organic Valley; gift baskets from Dave’s Killer Bread; free bread for a year from Grand Central Bakery; a gift basket from Bob's Red Mill; treats from Noble Rot; and many more!
