This event has passed.

The Seattle International Dance Festival Winter Mini  Fest presents two Inter|National weekends of globally inspired dance performances and cross cultural collaborations February 3-11, 2018.

Weekend Two / Program B - Cuidad Interior Dance Company (Mexico) and Khambatta Dance Company (Seattle, WA)

For a  a unique dance twist, Khambatta Dance Company choreographer Cyrus Khambatta and Ciudad Interior’s choreographer Alejandro Chavez will band together with each other dancers, pushing cultural and professional boundaries when they swap companies to create two new works in one SEVEN days. The works will be titled the night of the event! Experience the suspense of the creative process in the midst with these two stellar companies.

PROYECTO EXPEDIENTE (Project Files - excerpts) bu Ciudad Interior was recently presented in Mexico and received the support of the Mexican government funds for Arts and Culture, citing its innovation and prominence of its director, Mr. Chavez. Through lab experiments, dancers were examined and then exposed to audio of daily news casts of violence in Mexico to determine the effect on their performance consciously and unconsciously – the effect is chilling.

LIGHT/DARK, is the first part of the classical/contemporary juxtaposition of a work originally choreographed to Grieg's first two movements of Symphonic Dances (performed live by LUCO Orchestra in 2017). In this rendition, the coy juxtaposition of the classical and contemporary music selections, while repurposing/recycling the same movement vocabulary, provide a playful and intimate  perspective on the changed nature of relationships in the 21st century.
