Have you ever had an emergency in rope and didn’t know how to handle it? Do you want to brush up on your skills at safely managing your suspension? Or maybe you’re just getting started and you want to learn how to safely manage and handle emergency rope situations.

Mistakes happen all the time in rope and sometimes, that means you have to quickly bring someone out of rope or down from a suspension. Handling emergency descent situations is a hard skill we will explore in this class. The class will have a demonstration of 3 emergency descent techniques that can be used during rope. We will also discuss how to manage not just your rope during these high stress situations, but how to manage yourself, others and properly care for your bottom. We will practice all 3 descent techniques in smalls groups and have discussion around all the things you should be considering during an emergency situation. If you are not suspension ready or are not currently doing suspensions, we will also discuss how these concepts pertain to floor work.

Prerequisite knowledge

Know how to tie a single and double column tie. I do not allow students in my classes to practice suspensions unless they have shown they already have a basic knowledge and understanding of suspensions including safety. Anyone not proficient in suspension are welcome to attend this class as an observer.
