ELAINE BROWN

Former Minister of Information and Chair, Black Panther Party

The Black Panther Party has been widely mischaracterized as a nationalist, homophobic, chauvinistic, thug organization. None of this reflects the theory or practice of the Party. The Black Panther Party was guided by original ideological thought developed and articulated by its co-founder Huey P. Newton. Newton set forth theories, grounded in dialectical materialism, for the realization of black liberation through the dismantling of capitalism and initiation of revolutionary change in the United States of America. Putting theory to practice, Newton shaped the Party’s agenda. Brown will examine the thoughts of Huey P. Newton as they were applied to the Party’s work and agenda.
