Pianist Anat Fort and Vocalist Ayelet Rose Gottlieb are two Israeli musicians who have become prominent figures in the New York Downtown scene. That’s where they met in 2004, and have been playing together ever since. Their duo collaboration, exposes a profound connection of sister- souls, sharing music and musings as they perform originals by both Gottlieb and Fort, open improvisations as well as familiar tunes and jazz standards. They are currently in the process of recording their first duo album, following their recordings with larger bands on Ayelet’s projects Mayim Rabim (Tzadik, ’06), Upto Here | From Here (Obliqsound ’09) and Roadsides (anticipated 2013).

Ayelet Rose Gottlieb is an international performer, an explorer of sound and seeker of musical adventures. Her unique blend of jazz, middle-eastern & jewish music, combined with her innovative approach to composition and improvisation, has led her to collaborate with some of the most imaginative musicians of our time, including John Zorn (composer), ETHEL (string quartet), Matana Roberts (sax), Avishai Cohen (trumpet) and Rufus Cappadocia (cello). She has released three critically acclaimed CDs featuring her original compositions. A member of John Zorn’s a-cappella quartet Mycale , the group is currently working towards a second recording of Zorn’s music for his series Book of Angels: Masada Book II. Recently, she was commissioned by installation artist Michelle Jaffe to compose & produce music for Wappen Field (next presentation: Rutgers University ’14).

For Anat Fort, music is a colorful mosaic of sounds. A natural improviser from a very young age, it was not until her late teens that she discovered the depth of jazz. The next step was coming to the United States to study with people who were part of shaping up this music like Harold Mabern, Rufus Reid and Norman Simmons. Following her 1999 self-produced Peel, She released two albums on the renowned ECM Records: A Long Story (ECM '07) features legendary (ECM '10) presents the first recording of her long standing trio with drummer Roland Schneider and bassist Gary Wang.
