Kwaidan (1964)
The title of this 1964 anthology of short films is taken from the Japanese “kaidan”, a word which roughly translates into “strange, mysterious, rare or bewitching apparition” and “talk or recited narrative” — in short, ghost stories. It won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1965 and later received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
