You've learned some fundamental Shibari ties—ready to learn to combine them in hot ways? Want to move your partner smoothly from one position to another with connection and flow? Come learn how with Jonathan & Sappho~

In this three-hour workshop, we'll explore:

  • Hot, effective ties to place your partner into beautiful restraint positions on the floor, and move them smoothly & safely from one position to another.
  • By the end of the class, you'll have learned a basic kata/form you can use to do a beautiful & sensual multi-position floorwork progression with your partner, and use as a template for creating your own hot, individual scenes.
  • Rope Handling Skills for tying your partner fluidly & smoothly

We'll also discuss anatomy & safety issues associated with shibari, and discuss the important issues of consent & negotiation.

This workshop is appropriate for all genders, sexual orientations, and body types! Please wear clothing suitable for tying and being tied in. No nudity, please.

Prerequisite: People tying should be able to easily and reliably tie a secure, non-collapsing single-column tie in a timely and accurate fashion. You should also be able to tie basic rope bondage ties such as a chest harness or TK/Box Tie in a timely and accurate fashion with good rope tension.

People being tied should feel comfortable communicating about rope tightness or discomfort with your partner, and be comfortable sitting and lying on the floor while being restrained.

Please bring:

  • (4-5) 26'-30' lengths of soft rope, about 6mm/1/4" in diameter,
  • (2) 13'-15' lengths of soft rope, about 6mm/1/4" in diameter
  • safety shears

Need Some Rope? We have high-quality jute bondage rope for sale that can be delivered to you at start of the workshop. Please contact us for details.

This workshop is limited to 8 tying pairs.

No refunds or credit will be issued within 7 days of the event.

He has taught & performed for sold-out audiences in 13 countries and 23 cities, including Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Barcelona, London, Shanghai, Los Angeles, & many more.

He has been deeply involved in Japanese cultural arts for more than 40 years, and holds a high-level teaching license awarded to him by Kinoko Hajime of Tokyo, Japan. Jonathan’s personal style of rope combines his knowledge of body movement principles, psychology, and rope art to create his distinctive style of tying. Sappho is an unabashed lover of rope who brings expertise in Latin dance forms and a spirit of sensual inquiry to her kinbaku. She and Jonathan have taught & performed together in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

Sappho combines a methodical analysis of physical movement with a deep professional knowledge of neuro-anatomy in her approach to rope bottoming, and loves to share this knowledge with others. Together with Jonathan, she directs activities at the Portland Shibari Salon

For Jonathan & Sappho, rope is more than a beautiful & sensual art form; it is the invisible connection between two people made visible.
