Don Stuart: Why Farmers and Environmentalists Need Each Other

Tue, Nov 18, 2014 at 7:30pm

This event has passed.

Farms cover over half the U.S. land base. And their management has profound impacts on the environment - sometimes bad and sometimes good. So it is inevitable that farmers and environmentalists must deal with one another.  Unfortunately, they are usually at odds.

Former American Farmland Trust Northwest Regional Director Don Stuart explains the legal, political, and cultural framework for the farmer-environmentalist dispute. He shows why farmer-environmental conflict harms both our farms and our environment and how, when they cooperate, both benefit. And he offers practical suggestions for how they might come together.
