A Food & Art Performance
Inside the warm ambiance of Row House Café in South Lake Union, three local butoh dancers and an artist create a food and art performance. Alan Sutherland, Haruko Crow Nishimura (DAE), and Sheri Cidro Brown (DAIPAN) join Isobel Davis’ visual art exploration of the edge effect in her hung work, Energy of the Ecotone, filling every nook and cranny, with art, artifacts, costumes, food, and music, and a poetry interactive, that embodies the creative energy of biological diversity. The live music by Travis McAllister (PDX), and delightful bites from chef Carmel Spiro of Row House Café lead us to a potentially transformative art and memorable tasting experience.
Schedule: pre-performance art mingle and drinks at 4. Dancers begin at 4:30, a unique journey of sight, sound, movement, music, and communal assimilation. Core performance finished around 6:00, remaining time for interactive poetry and optional mingling.
Isobel Davis’ art (on view daily through March) examines life in transition in the ecotone, where nature is most inventive. The ecotone is the area of transition between biological communities birthing the edge effect where more diversity exists than on the flanking communities. Butoh dance art naturally embodies this effect, and butoh dancers’ investigation into transformation, also inspire new ways of being.
