In honor of the late jazz legend Nina Simone and her approaching 88th birthday, vocalist/composer Eugenie Jones will perform songs from Simone’s early years, as well as Jones’ original compositions

Jones returns to the Royal Room after releasing her CDs, Black Lace Blue Tears (2013), which was awarded Northwest Recording of the Year by Earshot Jazz and most recently the critically praised Come Out Swingin’ (2015), which rose to “Jazz Week Review’s” Top 50 charts and CMJ Top 10 charts. At the upcoming concert, she will be accompanied by pianist Peter Adams, bassist Tim Carey, drummer Brian Smith, and guitarist Milo Petersen. This concert is sponsored by Seattle Women in Jazz, the first organization of its kind locally to specifically highlight some of Seattle’s best jazz artists and bands, led by and/or comprised of women.

“We are excited to support this event highlighting Nina Simone, one of music’s most influential performers, with local artist Eugenie Jones, who has exhibited an incredible passion and talent as both a song stylist and songwriter,” said Jessica Davis, Founder and Executive Director of Seattle Women in Jazz.
