Errol Garner and George Shearing were both incredibly popular and successful for jazz instrumentalists in their day, yet neither of them could be categorized as belonging to any certain school of jazz. Both of them developed instantly recognizable styles of playing in which warmth and humor abounded.

Piano Starts Here highlights the work of some of the most prolific and talented jazz composers and pianists to ever tackle the instrument, hosted and curated by pianists Tim Kennedy and Wayne Horvitz. Each performance brings together Seattle’s finest contemporary pianists to perform compositions that showcase the featured performer’s work – the Royal Room brings together a who’s who of local piano talent to play the ongoing series, featuring pianists like Ryan Burns, Marc Seales, Dawn Clement, Sumi Tonooka, Gus Carnes, Aaron Othein, and Dave Peck, to name just a few.

Please note: Tickets do not guarantee seating during shows at the Royal Room. For sold out shows standing room may be the only available space. Please come early to ensure you get a table. Reservations can be made for those who are coming for dinner as well as the show. The Royal Room is all ages until 10pm.
