The Hugo Literary Series isn’t your typical reading series. Each year, we commission 12 writers and four musicians to create new writing--and songs, in the musicians’ cases—based on themes and writing prompts cooked up by our staff and present these fledgling works over four events: The Haves and the Have Nots (Oct. 28) featuring Charles Johnson, Tara Hardy, Megan Kelso and David Nixon (of “Awesome”); While You Were Sleeping (Nov. 18) featuring Sherman Alexie, Nicole Hardy, Kevin Sampsell and Rachel Flotard (of Visqueen); Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (Feb. 17, 2012) featuring Heather McHugh, Lidia Yuknavitch, Chad Goller-Sojourner and Alex Guy of Led to Sea; and The End of the Line (Mar. 16, 2012) featuring Sam Lipsyte, Ben Lerner, Suzanne Morrison and Tomo Nakayama (of Grand Hallway).
Commissioned by Richard Hugo House as part of the 2011-2012 Hugo Literary Series, MacArthur "Genius" Heather McHugh; Lidia Yuknavitch, author of "The Chronology of Water"; and performance artist Chad Goller-Sojourner debut new writing that answers the questions no one wants to ask, with new music by Alex Guy of Led to Sea.
