This event has passed.

In February, we're having SHRIEK at the venue of our first love, Scarecrow Video! Happy Valentine's Day!

Rescheduling GINGER SNAPS has been, well, a snap with help from Scarecrow, who continues to be our media sponsor. Due to a somewhat smaller venue, we can probably fit a maximum 30 people in the room. We suggest purchasing tickets in advance (we'll hold some at the door night-of) and bringing a cushion if you need it for their seats. And now, for the film:

Being a teenage girl means dealing with changes in one's body and even personality and values. GINGER SNAPS takes this and connects it to werewolves, and the results are spectacular. Tensions rise between Ginger (genre crush Katherine Isabelle) and her sister Brigitte (Emily Perkins) after Ginger is bitten by a wild animal and becomes someone her sister doesn't recognize. We'll have a lot to talk about with this one, such as: why are almost all female monsters presented as sexy? Why do women and girls become sexy when they become monsters?

Doors: 6:30pm.  Opening Talk & Film: 7:00pm

SHRIEK is a community class merging film with education and offering an accessible forum outside of academia. The goal is to offer low-cost opportunities to learn about film and women's studies and to inspire more diverse filmmakers, especially women, to get involved as creators in the genre. Sponsored by Scarecrow Video and Crypticon Seattle!

General Admission: $10 per session (register here in advance)

Teachers/Professors, Seniors 65+, Veterans, and Students with ID: $5 per session (register at event)

Low Income Housing / No Housing patrons: free entry

Day-of and point-of-sale registration also welcome!
