VOICING CAGE
To commemorate the legacy of iconic American composer-musician-artist-philosopher-poet John Cage, Stacey Mastrian and Stephen F. Lilly will present selections from Cage’s vast and tremendously diverse output that employ the voice in its many facets. These range from the simple, ethereal “Experiences No. 2” for solo voice with text by e e cummings, to readings from Cage’s prolific body of written work, such as Lecture on Nothing and Indeterminacy. Works evocative of Cage’s compositional process and aesthetic are also interposed to illustrate the far-reaching effects he has had on the perspective of subsequent generations.
