Chop Suey Presents: ANAMANAGUCHI // Chrome Sparks // Electric Children

Anamanaguchi is a chiptune punk band from New York City that "makes loud, fast music with a hacked NES from 1985." The band has four members: lead songwriter Peter Berkman, bassist James DeVito, guitarist Ary Warnaar and drummer Luke Silas. Akin to other chiptune artists, Anamanaguchi creates music using synthesizers, albeit unconventional ones: namely a hacked NES and Game Boy. However, unlike most chiptune bands, Anamanaguchi employs live electric guitar, bass and drums on top of said synthesized music to create a fusion of digital and traditional sounds. From a technical standpoint, their music resembles that of video games from the mid to late 1980s; however, Berkman states that video games are not the band's main inspiration, as their songwriting is mostly driven by "[s]imple pop stuff, like Weezer and the Beach Boys."

On March 26, 2010 at PAX East in Boston, the band announced they would be composing the music in the Ubisoft video game adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim franchise, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, which was released in August 2010. The soundtrack for the game was released on Amazon and iTunes by ABCKO Records on August 24, 2010. The Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game soundtrack debuted at #3 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart (AKA Soundscan's New Artist Chart). Their music also appears in the WiiWare title, Bit.Trip Runner. The song Jetpack Blues Sunset Hues is used as theme music for The Nerdist podcast hosted by Chris Hardwick and another of their songs, Helix Nebula, is used as the theme music for TalkRadar, the podcast for GamesRadar.

In October 2010 it was announced that Anamanaguchi would appear in the popular music video game Rock Band with the track Airbrushed.

On November 17th, 2010 Anamanaguchi performed a free concert in Union Square in support of embattled beverage Four Loko.
