Flutist/pianist/composer LÉA FREIRE grew up surrounded by music. She began by studying piano, where she absorbed Brazilian composers such as Villa-Lobos and Lorenzo Fernandes, as well as Bach and Debussy. She later started playing and teaching herself flute, with which she made her musical reputation. A versatile composer, Léa released her first CD, “Ninhal,” in 1997, on her newly-founded label Maritaca. Many CDs followed, including “Cartas Brasileiras,” (2007) with her symphonic arrangements for 62 musicians in various formations, a contemporary overview of Brazilian instrumental music. She has an ongoing composing partnership with Joyce Moreno who is the lyricist of many of Léa’s songs, released in the USA, Europe and Japan.

Pianist/composer/arranger/educator AMILTON GODOY, 76 years young, is also from the state of São Paulo. He has won important awards and competitions throughout his career. With Luiz Chaves (bass) and Rubens Barsotti (drums), Godoy formed the renowned and influential Zimbo Trio, which has made 51 recordings and performed in over 40 countries. The Zimbo Trio’s 49-year career has increased recognition of Brazilian instrumental music throughout the world. Considered one of the greatest pianists in the world, he has played with many orchestras with conductors such as Julio Medaglia, Chiquinho de Moraes and Simon Bleche.

“A Mil Tons” (“In a Thousand Keys,” — also a pun on Amilton Godoy’s name) is the new CD of Léa Freire and Amilton Godoy, a flute/piano duo based in São Paulo, Brazil. The recording features Amilton’s compositions, with 10 instrumental tracks, arranged by Amilton. Recorded in São Paulo, the CD is on the Maritaca label. Amilton and Léa invite you to enjoy the new sound on Spotify

Saxophonist/clarinetist HARVEY WAINAPEL has his feet firmly planted in two musical worlds. His jazz experience has led to performances and/or recordings with the likes of McCoy Tyner, Kenny Barron, Joe Henderson, Johnny Coles and the Metropole Orchestra. He has toured internationally with Ray Charles, Joe Lovano, and Airto Moreira & Flora Purim. Wainapel’s deep love for and research into Brazilian music has resulted in performances and recordings with Guinga, Jovino Santos Neto, Marco César, Spok, Filó Machado and Paulo Bellinati, among many other notables from that country. To date Harvey has presented his work in clubs, festivals and studios in 22 countries.
