This Month: Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo + Juliet” (1996)

Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes star as Romeo and Juliet in this contemporary ‘90s retelling of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy. The Montagues and Capulets are transported to America, where warring mafia empires feud. Swords are replaced by guns, young Leo’s bangs flutter, and Mercutio is a drag queen.
