Barrel Thief Academy - Whiskey 201 Series
Thu, Mar 4 at 7pm
Take your love of whiskey to the next level with this three-part series that goes deeper.
This series consists of 90-minute classes, offered every other week:
Thursday, Feb 18, 2021 - class complete
In this class, we'll learn about the basic chemistry of whiskey...what compounds are in it, where they come from, how they evolve over time, and what they each contribute to the flavor and experience. You don't need a science background to take this class, but you'll come out of it with a greater understanding and appreciation of what's in your glass. And you'll sound smarter than all of your other whiskey friends!
Whiskey Aromatics & Sensory Evaluation
Thursday, Mar 4 @ 7:00pm
Building on the chemistry, the second class is all about the aromatic compounds in whiskey...the aromas and the flavors you taste. This class includes both a whiskey tasting and sensory evaluation lab that you don't want to miss!
Thursday, Mar 18, 2021 @ 7:00pm
The final class in the series gets into detail about Japanese Whisky...its history, distilleries, evolution, and current direction & trends. This is always one of our most popular classes, and will be a tasty way to wrap up our whiskey curriculum.
Each class is accompanied by 5 tastes of whiskey (0.5 oz bottles), which you'll pick up at The Barrel Thief Wine & Whiskey Bar in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood, anytime the week before the classes begins.
Classes are taught by Christopher Gronbeck, owner of The Barrel Thief and longtime whiskey educator, and Jason Parker, owner & distiller at Copperworks Distilling, and moderated by Carolyn Sellar, proprietor of Adventures in Whisky. Classes are held via Zoom Meeting, and include a presentation, guided tasting, and interactive Q&A session.
Students must be 21+. Classes will be recorded so you can watch them later, if you can't attend live (students may elect to keep their video & audio off for privacy).
