On Tuesday, April 26th, the Royal Room stage in Seattle’s historic Columbia City neighborhood will come alive with a tour through time as award-winning, critically-acclaimed jazz artist Nicolas King and Americana/roots artist Alex Ashley treat audiences to an evening of jazz that pays homage to the rich relationship between country and jazz throughout history, and their shared roots.

In the first of four shows in the Pacific Northwest, the two seasoned performers will trade off leading a jazz trio through an amalgamation of both genres: Ashley will touch on the rich storytelling of traditional country and western music, playing jazz interpretations of classics by Hank Williams, Sr., Ray Price, Eddy Arnold, Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys, and others. King will bring the Great American Songbook, and the sounds of New York City’s vibrant "52nd Street Scene” to life.

“Traditional country music historically told a more rural American story, while jazz was more urban, but there is a profound story in how the two genres interacted during a time of intense segregation,” said Ashley. “Jazz and country integrated long before people did, which is a beautiful testament to the power of traditional American music.”

About Nicolas King: Acclaimed by the New York Times as “a precociously polished pop-jazz crooner,” and Bloomberg Radio as “candidate for super-stardom this decade,” King started on Broadway as a child, and has appeared on national television many times, including two appearances on The Tonight Show.

About Alex Ashley: “Alex Ashley’s songwriting takes you inside yourself and then out, impressing the beauty and danger of the complex world we live in...” —NPR Performing songwriter Alex Ashley creates an amalgam of blues, folk, rock, and gospel songwriting reminiscent of "a young Vince Gill," Jackson Browne and Eric Clapton.
