The Jared Hall Quintet presents arrangements and musical interpretations of the music of trumpeter, composer, singer Kenny Dorham. While catching the ear of both jazz critics and musicians, Dorham never quite reached the public attention like some of his colleagues. His compositional prowess was stamped with a tasteful balance of lyricism, groove, melody, and rhythm. Selections presented will be from some of Dorham’s most applauded albums including Quiet Kenny (1959), Showboat (1960), Whistle Stop (1961), Una Mas (1963), K.D. is Here (1962 & 1966).
Trumpeter Jared Hall, the new Director of Jazz Studies at Whitworth University in Spokane, returns to Seattle for this unique show. Hall performed in Seattle from 2015 to 2022 with the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, Symphony Tacoma, the 5th Avenue Theatre, and many of the region's outstanding ensembles. His quintet performed regularly at Tula’s Jazz Club, The Royal Room, the 2018 Gene Harris Jazz Festival, 2019 Puget Sound Jazz Combo Festival, and 2021 Bellevue Jazz Festival.
