Whether you define connection through kink, dance, erotic touch, tantra, conversation, or other human interaction, ConnectLab is for you.

Join Max and the House of Mirrors community for an extraordinary exploration of connection.

Event format

This loosely structured conference emphasizes the informal exchange of information and ideas between people of all backgrounds: kinksters, polyamorous folks, dancers, bodyworkers, improv comedians, and people who simply love connecting with the world around them!

Max produced four unconferences between 2015 and 2017, and Sart has worked with unconferences in the maker/hacker and performance art and teaching spaces for 15+years. They're both pretty excited about doing this for our communities.

What topics will be presented?

In an unconference, the topics are determined by the attendees on the day of the unconference, based on their experience and interests.

Want to study a topic in order to teach it? Looking to lead the way in your connection-positive community culture? Interested in leading discussion groups with friends and peers? Need an opportunity to try out a new workshop? Got a topic you’d like somebody else to cover? Not a big talker, but simply want to listen to the discussions and soak it all up? This unconference is for you.

Topics at Max’s prior unconferences have included:

  • Connecting when there’s trauma in the room
  • How do I get better at asking for what I want?
  • Art and connection
  • Endings
  • Why do we want what we want?
  • I have depression and anxiety and I don’t know how to talk to people
  • Connection perpetuation
  • Kink and kids
  • Suspension rope bondage
  • Why cages?
  • Accountability in Kink
  • Art of the singletail
  • Sex and play in long term relationships
  • Kink abroad
  • Soft abductions
  • Medical risk mitigation
  • Sex with pregnancy
  • Balancing pushing in a scene with the need for consent
  • Deep throating
  • Time out - stopping / pausing without judgment
  • Coming out stories
  • Hot Metal - sous vide techniques for BDSM
  • Building community
  • Scene negotiation from the bottom’s perspective
  • Using kink to build intimacy
  • Hypnosis as a tool for connection

Who should attend?

This event assumes no previous experience, and is appropriate for all genders and orientations. You can bring a partner or a group of friends, but coming alone is completely comfortable and appropriate.

Past unconferences have included diverse communities of attendees - from professional educators to relative newcomers, all invested in the goals of communication, community, and education.

The conversations were enlightening and enthusiastic, and many of the engaging topics at the unconferences were realized in the following weeks and months as successful local workshops, budding business ventures and deeper, more meaningful relationships. The positive energy generated on the day of the event lasts long after the closing circle.

There’s so much to listen to, to talk about, and to learn. Be part of the ConnectLab unconference experience!

What is the Schedule for this Event?

Doors open at 12:30 pm, allowing time to check-in, get a cup of coffee, and mingle with the other attendees.

At 1:00 pm we’ll gather for the Opening Circle where we will explain the concept of Open Space Technologies / unconferences and how the day will work. There will be 5 areas for sessions and 4 time blocks, allowing for 20 unique sessions during the day.

From 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm we'll hold our unconference sessions.

At 6:00 pm we'll do our Closing Circle. This wraps up our time together and is a crucial part of the experience.

The event ends at 6:45 pm.

At 7:30 pm we’ll have an optional no-host dinner at a nearby restaurant to mingle, debrief, and continue the connections you made at the event.

Guiding Principles

  • Whoever comes are the right people.
  • Whenever it starts is the right time. Spirit and creativity do not run on the clock.
  • Wherever it happens is the right place. Space is opening everywhere all the time. Please be conscious and aware.
  • Whatever happens is the only thing that could have happened. Once something has happened, it's done, and no amount of fretting, complaining or otherwise rehashing can change that. Move on.
  • When it's over, it's over.

The Law of Two Feet

  • If you are neither benefiting from nor contributing to a conversation/presentation, take your two feet and go somewhere you can.
  • You have the freedom to move about and participate in what moves you, free from offending the presenters.
  • No need to get bored or to attend an entire session - you can jump around as much or as little as you desire.

Choose-Your-Own-Adventure

  • This day together is a chance to create your own experience, share your own learning, and choose your own adventure.
  • Along the way you’ll have the opportunity to connect with others and to ask tough questions or share something you are passionate about in a safe space.

Logistics and Agreements

  • Please bring pen and paper for notes.
  • Bring any specific snacks or drinks you desire.  We will provide a few snacks, water, and tea/coffee.
  • No smoking or vaping inside the venue.

  • Refrain from wearing perfumes, oils, & scented products as our hosts are chemically sensitive.
