Chaos and The Cosmos is a Seattle-based art rock band. Their sound harkens back to Classic Melodic Prog with elements of Space Rock, Dream Pop, Classical Music, and Electronica.

The band is the musical vehicle of composers Paul Langer and John Allday. From conception to earbud, they draw on decades of musical exploration, playing in bands of varying genres including southern rock, experimental/avant guard, new wave, alternative, prog, surf, with triphop and americana sprinkled in. Astronaut Scott Kelley played Paul's solo album, High Plains Drifter, on the STS-103 international space station in 1999, thus foreshadowing Paul's space-themed future. John co-founded the Seattle-based prog band Moon Letters, which has recently released Thank You From the Future (2022).

Chaos and The Cosmos also features the talents of a string trio. Phil Hirschi, cello, whose credits include playing in version two of Mahavishnu Orchestra, appearing on the albums Apocalypse (1974) and Visions of the Emerald Beyond (1975). Rachel Nesvig, violin, has worked with rapper Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, The Who, Father John Misty, Sir Mix A Lot, Evanescence, Naomi Judd, and Chris Botti. Aleida Gehrels, viola, has toured with Macklemore and has worked with Father John Misty, Perfume Genius, Abney Park, and Amy Grant.

Guitarist Dennis Rea (Moraine) presents a rare solo set of original pieces, interpretations of Asian and other world music, improvisation, and select covers.

Active since the mid-1970s, Rea has led or been a key contributor to musical innovators Moraine, Iron Kim Style, Zhongyu, LAND, Savant, Flame Tree, and Earthstar, and has worked with such trailblazing musicians as Hector Zazou, Stuart Dempster, Cui Jian, Albert Kuvezin, Klaus Schulze, Steve Fisk, Han Bennink, Hawkwind members Nik Turner and Michael Moorcock, and members of King Crimson, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Santana, Ministry, Yat Kha, and the Sun Ra Arkestra.

Everything Oscillating, featuring Dave Webb (guitar), Mike Murphy (bass) of Moon Letters and Kai Strandskow (drums) of The Drive Through will be replacing What Strange Beasts due to illness.
