Ripple Æffect is a collaborative ensemble focused on creating an intimate, accessible, and emotionally complex new music experience. We celebrate the nuanced themes of life, telling stories through song. We seek to appreciate and expand the dense creative community across the west coast, creating a ripple effect of connection through music. The core members of Ripple Æffect include New York based saxophonist Aidan Siemann and vocalist Lola Miller, and Bay Area based drummer Josh Setala.

Aidan, Lola, and Josh each grew up on the West Coast and have a deep love for the dense creative community there. Lola is a San Francisco native, she grew up in the rich and diverse bay area musical environment. Just up the coast, Aidan and Josh grew up in the greater Seattle area and attended high schools 17 miles apart, soaking in Seattle’s unparalleled early jazz education. Each member’s roots have deeply shaped their music and who they are today.

Our core trio first came together when we were students in the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Roots, Jazz, and American Music program, experimenting with new music in a collaborative setting. As we have each grown into solo bandleaders, we have continued to value the sacred energy of collaborative music making. Coming together from across the country, we are excited to return to our roots and embark on a tour of Seattle and San Francisco in June of 2024.

Trumpeter Carter Eng has performed at many famous venues around the world, including the Newport, North Sea and Montreux Jazz Festivals, Jazz at Lincoln Center, SFJAZZ and the Seattle Jazz Fellowship. Last June, he was awarded second place at the 2023 ITG Jazz Improvisation Competition. With the Roosevelt High School Jazz Band, winners of the 2019 Essentially Ellington Competition, he has received numerous soloist awards as well as the school's "Waldo King Inspirational Award". He was recently featured as the cover story for Earshot Jazz's May issue. Carter graduated last June from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's "Roots, Jazz and American Music" program where he studied with Mike Rodriguez and Mario Guarneri. Since graduating, he has been a freelance trumpeter around the Seattle area in a variety of musical settings.
