Botany and Biology talks are back at The Lab!

In a 19th-century castle kitchen, a German scientist was playing with human pus - using his chemistry skills to purify a mysterious new substance from the cells - a substance we now call DNA. Come learn about the history of humans playing with DNA in laboratories, and meet some of the genetically modified organisms we have increasingly shared our planet with since the 1990s, and where that might take us in the future.

Dr. Orlando de Lange brings decades of experience as a plant scientist, biotechnology teacher and science communicator to create accessible but reassuringly nerdy science content. This talk ties in with the launch of his new podcast - Modified, exploring the science and history of genetically modified crops.

These talks are fun and engaging, with doors opening 30 minutes prior to the event, and a planned intermission to give event attendees a chance to meet some peers with common interests and discuss DNA together.
