Rat City Summer School

The Rat City Rollergirls are stuck in Summer School. Come join us in the back of the class for this four week intensive roller derby training clinic. This is a valuable opportunity for men and women (18 and over) of all skating levels who want to learn from some of the best skaters in Seattle, with real time feedback from Rat City All Stars. The superior training you will receive from this clinic series is sure to get you the edge you've been looking for.
Our $100 training package includes seven on-skates classes and a rules clinic covering all the basics you’ll need to excel during the camp’s grand finale, a friends and family bout to showcase your new skills. Each class will end in an off-skates plyometric workout and dynamic stretching session personally created by the Rat City Training Manager and Derby Liberation Front captain, Jill Nye.
June 26th 7:30-9:30pm Open skate & registration. Come skate, get to know us, and eat some yummy treats. Full gear is required.
July 3rd 7:30-9:30pm Rat City All Stars Dee Cap Attack and Buster Up will teach you how to (literally) strike fear in the eyes of the opposing jammer. Backwards blocking has become a necessary skill for competitive play- Come learn lateral backwards agility, taking and landing hits and basic backward strategy.
July 7th 6-8pm Team U.S.A skater Carmen Getsome and Rat City All Star Raven Seaward will be coaching dynamic team work in pairs. How can you work together effectively when the cards are stacked against you? If you’ve seen these two take the track together, you know it can be done. - You won’t want to miss this!
July 10th 7:30-9:30pm Grave Danger captain Cat-a-ma-Ram and Rat City All Star and Grave Danger veteran Tempura Tantrum will teach you to block like a boss as you work on force outs, weight transfer and transitions.
July 14th 6-8pm Rat City All Star Holly Botts and Puget Sound Outcast’s very own Dylan Botts will teach you that your toe stops are an accessory, not a necessity. Hard cuts, edge work, and fluid movements are the focus of this class.
July 17th 7:30-9:30pm A duo so nice they’re doing it twice- the Botts’ are back to serve up a jammer clinic that can’t be missed. Come learn strategy, technique, and jammer confidence from some of the best in the northwest. Does your heart beat with nothing but blocker blood? This class will also be covering the basics of offense- learn how to help your jammer succeed and leave the competition in the dust.
July 21st 6-8pm Grave Danger Alumni Sheeza Brickhouse will lay the foundation for building a great wall. You will learn the skills to keep your wall strong and own your space.
July 28th 6-8pm Rules are rules. No training camp is complete without a look into the rules of roller derby. Skaters will scrimmage with real-time feedback from official Rat City referees, who will break down the do’s and don’ts you’ll need to know to keep yourself out of the penalty box. This is an invaluable resource for fresh skaters to build confidence in their pack awareness and personal strategy development.
July 31st 7:30-9:30pm Putting it all together- Show your friends and family everything you’ve learned in a full-length regulation bout.
With the purchase of our training package you will also receive an official Rat City Rollergirls t-shirt.
That's not all. As a Summer School participant you will be granted access to Rat City's Fit Skate practice on Wednesday night's at 9pm at no additional charge for the duration of the camp. Do your homework and get some extra skating time in.
