An explosive slide show talk, Q&A and book signing with San Francisco gay radical sex photographer Mark I. Chester.

Mark I Chester is a San Francisco artist gay radical sex photographer.  He has been documenting his life in San Francisco’s sexual underground since the late 1970s.  His photographs capture these emotionally explosive and politically tumultuous times through personal portraiture that combines the normally exclusive photographic genres of fine art portraiture, sexually explicit work and social documentary photographs.  His slide show talk will cover nearly 4 decades of work that trace both his personal evolution as a sex radical and the tremendous changes that have occurred in the gay community during those times.  His work is sexually explicit, politically provocative and artistically taboo.

Seeded by money from a grant and crowd sourcing, Mark is also producing a book called, 'City of Wounded Boys & Sexual Warriors.’  This photographic monograph is being printed digital on demand in an 8"x10" hardback with over 125 pages and over 75 images in both black and white and color.  There is no other artistic body of work this personal, this raw, this sexual, this confrontational, this devastating and this full of pleasure that covers this time period in San Francisco's gay and leather sexual underground.  Mark will have copies of his book for sale for $115, a savings of $35 over the retail price.

Mark will be in Seattle celebrating the inclusion of his photograph series, ‘Robert Chesley - ks portraits with harddick & superman spandex’ in Art, AIDS, America, a show opening on Sat. Oct. 3rd at the Tacoma Art Museum.  Mark’s work has been shown in various exhibitions and his photographs can be found on his website at http://markichester.com or on Facebook and Fetlife.

Suggested donation: $5-20
