Epic Jam featuring Crom Saunders

Deaf Spotlight is thrilled to announce another Epic Jam featuring Crom Saunders on September 24, 2015!
The goal of Epic Jam is to revitalize the Deaf cultural gathering, where people can share poems and tell stories in American Sign Language (ASL). This is part of a long-time tradition that has passed down from Deaf Clubs and Deaf schools through several generations. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to see, support and develop a larger pool of performers and poets who celebrate ASL. The audience will be encouraged to interact and, in the process, develop an appreciation for why ASL literature is so deeply valued in the Deaf community.
Crom Saunders grew up in Northern California, and graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a M.A. in Creative Writing. In addition to several appearances in full productions, improv events, The Encyclopedia Show, and performing with the ASL Comedy Tour circuit, Crom has his own one-man show, “Cromania!”, which tours internationally. Crom also has interpreted dozens of plays, from children’s theatre to musicals and has taught dozens of ASL linguistics and theatrical workshops across the nation. He currently teaches and acts as Director of Deaf Studies at the ASL Department Columbia College, Chicago. He is one of the co-founders of the Chicago- based arts organization, The Five Eyes Project. He is currently working on an English poetry translated into ASL project called Ink-Stained Fingertips. Crom has also been gaining recognition online with his Clogs, his unique vlogs which have been viewed by thousands of people on YouTube and Facebook. Check out some of his work at www.thecromsaunders.com!
Hosting the evening with his heartwarming energy and inviting audience participation is Nat Wilson. Nat is a National Theater of the Deaf Alum, storyteller, comedian, and host for festivals and events celebrating ASL and Deaf culture.
Consider Epic Jam your “open stage” opportunity to share your poems and stories! Come and join us!
