Kiki Valera is the music director & cuatrista of La Familia Valera Miranda, Santiago de Cuba’s most beloved son septeto. His family has been playing traditional Cuban music – the genre popularized by the Buena Vista Social Club – for generations! Although world-renowned for his technical & virtuosic skill on the Cuban cuatro (an 8-string guitar tuned in pairs), the most important elements of Kiki’s musical heritage are the authenticity & eloquent simplicity heard in their sones and boleros.

After 20 years of directing La Familia Valera Miranda, internationally acclaimed recording artist Kiki Valera has joined forces with a new line up of accomplished musicians. He now turns his attention to a Seattle-based ensemble, Kiki Valera y los Guajíbaros that includes Alex Rivera & Alfredo Polier on vocals, Steve Guasch on bongos, Javier Marú on guitar, Guillermo Padilla on congas, Jeff Volkman on bass & Gary Stroutsos on flute.
