Join Feet First for the 2016 Walkable Washington Symposium & Awards

Tue, Jun 7, 2016 at 9am

This event has passed.

Walkable Washington Symposium & Awards is a unique opportunity to network with over 150 planners, landscape architects, engineers, non-profit leaders, educators, and community advocates and to recognize outstanding projects through our signature Innovation Awards.

Keynote Speaker:  Dr. Eric Scharnhorst

Eric wants to live in a city where cars have nerf bumpers, street trees are planted in parking spots, and kids play safely in the street.

As a Ph.D. Fellow at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen, he built a people-powered Walk Score. At Gehl Architects he helped make streets more people-friendly in New York, San Francisco, Denver, and in cities in South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. His work has been covered by the Associated Press, City Observatory, Next City, and dozens of local outlets.

Dr. Scharnhorst is researching cities, livability and housing at Redfin. He is the designer of Opportunity Score, a new Redfin tool that measures how jobs and homes are connected by walking and public transportation throughout cities across the country.

When he’s not busting urban myths with data, you can find him walking to the grocery store, cooking for his family, or building a secret new tool for Redfin that he’ll share with everyone at Walkable Washington in June.

The event sessions focus on the following areas:

  •           Design and Engineering
  •           Advocacy and Encouragement
  •           Vision and Planning

Continuing education credits are available for AICP professionals. Lunch is included in the ticket price (vegetarian and gluten free options will be available). Space is limited for this event. Be sure to get your ticket today to attend this unique learning and networking opportunity.
