Both children set out on quests to find what they are missing that unfold with mesmerizing symmetry.

Fantastic news for SDFF attendees! We will have two #deaftalent guests in town for the Saturday morning’s WONDERSTRUCK screening: Millicent Simmonds and Howie Seago.  Come and see them talk about their experiences in person!

Due to the added panel, we are changing the start time of the WONDERSTRUCK showing to 10 AM instead of 10:30 AM. Currently the screening is sold out and we will not be accepting additional people at the door. Thank you for your understanding.

Millicent Simmonds was discovered after a nationwide search, where she landed the coveted lead role of Rose opposite Julianne Moore in the Amazon feature film, WONDERSTRUCK. The remarkable film about two children, one in the 1970s and one in the 1920s, whose stories overlap on separate journeys to Manhattan was shot without sound as a nod to the time-period and to Millicent’s character. Millicent herself is deaf and communicates by using American Sign Language.  The film, directed by Todd Haynes, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival where it was nominated for the Palme d’Or, and went on to screen as the Centerpiece title of the 55th New York Film Festival. Millicent was nominated for a 2017 Critics Choice Award in the category Best Young Actor/Actress for her incredible work as Rose. Millicent will next be seen starring opposite John Krasinski and Emily Blunt in Paramount’s A QUIET PLACE, which is also being directed by Krasinski.

Howie Seago has 40 years in directing, producing, writing and teaching.  You know of his work in films and shows like WONDERSTRUCK, BEYOND SILENCE, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, HUNTER, and THE EQUALIZER. In theatre he’s participated in AJAX as well as THE PERSIANS with Peter Sellars.  He was a part of the ensemble for National Theatre of the Deaf and Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He has also founded several projects: Deaf Youth Drama Program with Seattle Children’s Theatre, Shared Reading Video Outreach Project- an award winning literacy program via videoconferencing, and the Deaf Teen Leadership camp.
