Dylan Hayes is currently a student in his third year of jazz studies at Cornish College of the Arts. He is originally from San Fransisco and attended Marin School of the Arts. He is a jazz pianist and composer that has more recently been arranging jazz standards and originals for big band. He has taken private lessons with Dawn Clement and Chuck Deardorf at Cornish working primarily on solo piano, duo and trio arrangements of original compositions of his. During his second year, he studied with Jim Knapp, a well known big band composer in Seattle who inspired Dylan to put together his own big band. Dylan was inspired by Jim's theory book, where he learned the basics to jazz voice leading. Some other big band influences of Dylan's in the Seattle area are Dave Marriott's big band and SRJO, as well pulling inspiration from Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Gil Evans, Thad Jones, Oliver Nelson, Roy Hargrove Big Band, Phronesis, and the Steven Feifke Big Band.
