Did you know that The Advocate proclaimed 2016 as the most dangerous year for transgender Americans? That year, anti-transgender laws known as “bathroom bills” were on the ballot in our very own state, throwing the safety of the transgender community—and public ignorance surrounding their identities—into the spotlight and into the voting booth. Seattle-based filmmaker Vlada Knowlton, whose youngest daughter is trans, teamed up with Gender Diversity, a community organization supporting families with trans kids, to document this present-day civil rights movement in our own backyard.
