Deaf Spotlight is thrilled to announce Epic Jam IV on April 25, 2013, featuring performer Terrylene who will deliver an eye-popping performance in ASL.

The goal of Deaf Spotlight’s Epic Jam is to revitalize the Deaf cultural gathering, where people can share poems and tell stories in American Sign Language (ASL). This is part of a long-time tradition that has passed down from Deaf Clubs and Deaf schools through several generations. Consider this as an opportunity to see, support and develop a larger pool of performers and poets who celebrate ASL.

Hosting the evening with his dazzling energy inviting audience participation is Jeremy Quiroga, the Handwaves coordinator, who is leading Epic Jam into a new direction with his ability to execute successful poetry and performance events. The audience will be encouraged to interact and, in the process, develop an appreciation for why ASL literature is so deeply valued in the Deaf community. Jeremy, who co-founded the 1997 Seattle-based Deaf Poets Society, is happy to be back in the place that he calls home - the great city of Seattle - and on the ASL poetry stage.

Terrylene is regarded by the Deaf community as one of their foremost celebrities, as an actress, poet and storyteller. Using American Sign Language artistically and fluently, Terrylene celebrates the Deaf community’s native language and has devoted her craft to Ameslan Poetry in hope of enlightening others to this under-recognized art form.Terrylene has received overwhelming applause for her critically acclaimed, autobiographical one-woman stage play, "In The Now," which toured nationally and has been adapted into an indie feature film, The Upper Room, She has also dedicated her time and talent in creating an entertaining E-learning website for toddlers to promote healthy bilingual development by the age of five, (www.clercschildren.com.) Terrylene is grateful to Deaf Spotlight for taking the lead in consistently showcasing Ameslan Poetry in its truest artistic form and hopes to inspire audiences into playing with poetry and storytelling.among their families and friends.

Consider Epic Jam your “open stage” opportunity to share your poems and stories! Come and join us!
