Orlando de Lange, SoundBio Lab and Ada's present The Botany of Birth, Life and Death: parables for all religions and none.

Around this season Christians, and many other faiths, tell stories of death and rebirth. Come and learn about the Botany of life and death. What does death mean to an organism with no heart, no brain, where every cell is a world unto itself? What is a resurrection plant and is it ever really dead? What is a birth for organisms that often produce clones, still attached to the parent plant. Is a seed a new life or a potential life, waiting for germination? These questions and many more.

Speaker: Orlando de Lange, Plant Molecular Biologist at UW and parent to many happy houseplants.

Arriving in Seattle from the UK, by way of Germany, presenter Orlando de Lange now spends his days researching plant immune systems at the University of Washington. By night, weekend, and any other free time he can be found at SoundBio, a community lab space in the University District where he leads a team of intrepid amateur plant scientists (www.sound.bio).
