This Sunday 9/22, "The Inhabitant Sessions" arrives for the launch of Sunday Supper at Vermillion, a new series of epic public hangouts featuring real talk on science, art & politics, a superb gourmet supper sampler and the town’s most adventuresome musical spirits.

At 5pm, Charles Mudede offers a new talk: “The Birth of the Bad Check”, keying off Martin Luther King’s legendary reference to the “bad check” that the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom set out to collect from a deadbeat America. Tonight’s is the first of a series of talks that Charles will be offering in Seattle and Berlin over the next several weeks. See below for more details.
Following Mr. Mudede’s presentation (and your penetrating questions), Chef M. Washington provides a delectable six-course light supper.
As the evening commingles with savory comestibles, selektor Bob Catt will take command at the sonic console, conditioning the social context with his gentle mastery of ancient grooves. About 9pm one might expect a performance from surprise guests. (Or one might not, since it is a surprise.) Finally, OCnotes will take the late shift, piloting our rhapsodic soul craft from the ethereal to an earthly return.

•Charles Mudede is a writer, filmmaker, and cultural critic.
He writes about film, books, music, crime, art, economics, and urban theory for The Stranger. He has made three films, two of which, Police Beat and Zoo, premiered at Sundance, and one, Zoo, was screened at Cannes. Mudede has written for the New York Times, Arcade Journal, Cinema Scope, The Village Voice, Radical Urban Theory, and C Theory. Mudede is also on the editorial board for the Black Scholar, which is based at the University of Washington, and between 1999 and 2005, lectured on post-colonial theory at Pacific Lutheran University. Mudede has lived in Seattle since 1989.

Disguised as a series of charming parties in a procession of bars, galleries and social spaces, fully realized The Inhabitant Sessions will comprise a survey of scientific reflections on power and nature, particularly as these contribute to form in human social organization and subjectivity.
