The Royal Room presents our seventh annual "Home for the Holidays" series, bringing native Seattle musicians to perform a night of music.

Isak Gaines & Jack Swiggett Duo

Back for their third duo set at the Royal Room, New York-based tenor saxophonist Isak Gaines and Palo Alto-based pianist Jack Swiggett will be performing a wide variety of jazz standards, adapted covers, and original material. Both graduates of Garfield High School and Washington Middle School, 2018 will mark their 10th year of playing music together.

Brittany Anjou
 is an American pianist, vibraphonist, improviser, vocalist, and composer based in New York City since 2002. Her original projects include the Larceny Chamber Orchestra, The Brittany Anjou Trio, BI TYRANT (riot grrl experimental punk), and BEWAA (traditional Ghanaian xylophone), and ASTAMAEA (jazz for Arabic poetry). She has toured and performed in over 18 countries in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. As a young jazz player she studied with Seattle jazz women Christina Shinkle (piano, theory) and Susan Pascal (vibraphone). After graduating from Seattle's Roosevelt High School ('02) where she gained big band experience onstage with Wynton Marsalis, she completed a degree in jazz performance at NYU under tutelage of mentors including Stefon Harris, Don Friedman, George Garzone, Tony Moreno, Victor Lin, and Ralph Alessi. She studied with contemporary composer Milan Slavický in Prague, and traditional Ghanaian xylophone repertoire in with master xylophonist Bernard Woma, Jerome Balsab, and Alfred Kpebsaane at the University of Ghana and the Dagara Music Center in Medie.
