Ramen Trio plays composed and improvised music that’s informed by jazz though not bound by it.
James DeJoie (clarinet, bass clarinet), Doug Lilla (bass guitar), Jay Weaver (drums) constantly search for “spines” in the music whether it’s written or improvised and revel in making music live and breathe. Listening to each other is a crucial element of the band’s chemistry as they seek to discover new paths through the musical topography they find themselves in, while finding balance in keeping off balance. The three veterans of the Seattle music scene were selected to perform in the 2017 edition of Jazz in the Second Century concert series presented by Earshot Jazz. They released their first recording in 2018.

James DeJoie Quintet:

James DeJoie has been playing, writing and performing in Seattle for over thirty years. From classical performances to electronic progressive rock and back again, he has always maintained an incredible variety of styles. His newest group James DeJoie Quintet features all new music written in unique and varying styles in an acoustical setting. Winner of the Artist Residency Program at Jack Straw Cultural Center, James continues to explore musical textures and styles.
