August 4: The Music of Emmylou Harris & Nancy Griffith
Emmylou Harris could just as easily be described as alt-rock, folk, alternative or any number of descriptions, with deep roots in Country and traditional American folk music. Emmylou paved the way for the term Americana.
Nanci Griffith kept one foot in folk and the other in country, which she described as "folkabilly". She was known to remark that if you took Woody Guthrie and Loretta Lynn and mixed them together, you would get Nanci Griffith.
