"Displaying a modern approach that embraces Marquis Hill, as much as Lee Morgan." (Earshot Jazz)

"Emblematic of the new wave of live jazz performers in the city." (Seattle Jazz Scene) Trumpeter, composer, and recording artist Jun Iida has quickly established himself as a highly sought after musician in the Los Angeles and Pacific Northwest music scenes. In addition to being active in the studio recording scene, he is a dynamic performing artist both as a bandleader as well as a sideman.
Originally from St. Louis, MO as the son of Japanese immigrants, Iida was exposed to a variety of musical genres from a young age during his upbringing in Pittsburgh, PA. In particular, Iida developed a deep interest and passion for jazz and improvisatory music. He went on to study under the tutelage of established jazz educator and composer Paul Ferguson (Cleveland, OH) before settling in Los Angeles, CA in 2015 where he began actively performing with his sextet. In 2020, he relocated to Seattle, WA where he quickly established himself in the greater PNW music scene. He can be found performing in the greater Seattle area with groups including Alex Dugdale's FADE Quintet, Dylan Hayes' Xtet, Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, Jacqueline Tabor Group, Birch & The Gin Joints, and Jory Tindall Quartet. He has had the opportunity to perform at notable institutions including: SFJazz, Black Cat (San Francisco, CA), Blue Whale, Sam First, Baked Potato, Gold-Diggers, Troubadour, World Stage, Hotel Cafe, The Echo, Rhythm Room, The Mint, Sassafras (Los Angeles, CA), The 1905 (Portland, OR), The Royal Room, Benaroya Hall, Vermillion, Calluna's, and Owl N' Thistle (Seattle, WA). Iida has also had the opportunity to tour with Todo Mundo, Within Seekers, Zelda and the LoLo's, and Salt Petal. He has performed at music festivals including: Earshot Jazz Festival, Portland Jazz Festival, Angel City Jazz Festival, South by Southwest (SXSW), Joshua Tree Music Festival, California Worldfest, Yosemite Music Festival, and Lake Tahoe Music Festival.
