Women in Music grant recipient, Alaskan born Seattle based singer/songwriter Tekla Waterfield incorporates elements of folk, country, roots, rock and soul creating a wide-ranging sound unified by dynamic vocals and compelling observational storytelling. Paired with her husband and musical partner, accomplished internationally touring guitarist Jeff Fielder, known for his work with Mark Lanegan, Amy Ray, Stone Gossard, Duff McKagan, Sera Cahoone and the Indigo Girls, the duo present lush, harmonic, thoughtfully developed & playfully artistic Contemporary American Roots.
Seattle-based polymath, Benjamin Hunter, is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, composer, creative/cultural advocate, social entrepreneur, producer, and educator. Benjamin's work explores the intersections of folklore, art, community, policy, and culture. With his primary instrument the violin, he is as comfortable playing classical as he is blues and jazz. City Arts Magazine wrote, " The music he plays not only spans an array of genres but a huge swath of history." Living Blues magazine wrote, "An unbridled freedom and genre emancipation is evident in Ben Hunter's music, yet the deep blues are a cornerstone of his style". He currently serves as Artistic Director of Northwest Folklife, and frequently lectures on music, culture, and community in civic and academic institutions across the country.
