Jonah Hieb is a New York-based trumpeter, pianist, composer, producer, and poet who blends his background in jazz with more contemporary influences. He grew up in Seattle and developed his love for the art form playing in the jazz bands at Washington Middle School and Garfield High School, but music has since taken him much further than that. The 20-year-old has performed and recorded with Sean Jones and Melissa Aldana, and in the summer of 2022 he embarked on an American tour alongside renowned vocalist Jazzmeia Horn as a member of Carnegie Hall’s NYO Jazz.

Jonah has also received awards for both jazz composition and jazz trumpet from the YoungArts Foundation. In 2022 he was selected for the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, and performed there in September 2022 under the direction of Gerald Clayton. Jonah now performs frequently in New York and Seattle, both as a bandleader and a sideman, at venues including Carnegie Hall, Dizzy’s Club, The Royal Room, and Room 623. In 2023, he toured the Southern United states with one of his groups. He is currently a student at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studies trumpet with Ingrid Jensen and Scott Wendholt.

On June 16, 2024 at The Royal Room, Jonah will continue to push his musical comfort zone with his new project “Two Trios”. The show will exclusively feature new music written for two unique instrumentations: trumpet, piano, and cello, and trumpet, bass, and drums.

Featuring: Kate Molloy (piano), Peter Tracy (cello), Kelsey Mines (bass), and Josh Setala (drums)
