The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet is what happens when four classically trained musicians combine serious chops with seriously unexpected fun. This all-female, genre-bending powerhouse blends classical music with pop, comedy, and oddball instruments like kazoos, melodicas, and whatever else they can find in their gig bags. Formed at the Eastman School of Music, the quartet shot to global internet fame in 2011 with their viral YouTube hit Lady Gaga Saga (yes, that’s four bassoons doing Gaga, and yes, it’s amazing).
Since then, they've performed with elite groups like the West Point Band, the Eastman Wind Ensemble, the Yale Concert Band among others—and brought their one-of-a-kind energy to stages around the world including tours in the USA, Canada, China, Japan, Thailand, Spain, and beyond.
With over 3.5 million YouTube views, features on NPR and MTV, two albums, and even a bassoon-themed card game (because of course they did), The Breaking Winds continue to prove that classical music doesn’t have to take itself too seriously to be seriously good.
