Debut album of original music by Evan Captain's jazz piano trio, titled 帰 Returning, out on 2/20 with Strange Moon Records! Featuring Kelsey Mines on bass and Chris Icasiano on drums. The album ranges from introspective to raucous and joyful Americana jazz, exploring identity through art. Joined this evening by songwriter Josh Hou (侯守仁) and lyricist Shuxuan Zhou (周舒璇) and their project 双兔吉祥 Good luck Rabbits, whose songs capture diasporic lives and dreams—the sweet, the heartbroken, the outrageous, and the suspenseful. The music spans styles and genres, yet remains firmly planted in the Mandarin pop tradition.
