Bad Luck: For over a decade the Seattle based duo Bad Luck (Neil Welch, saxophone/electronics and Chris Icasiano, drums) have pushed the boundaries of what it means to perform, create and move forward in the genre of modern jazz.
"Bad Luck chop up time and space into jagged, unpredictable shapes...like an asymmetrical avalanche.”
- The Stranger Magazine
“With four albums under their belt, Bad Luck has created an incredibly diverse array of music. They have developed a unique performative language together, sculpting compositions that use complex mnemonic techniques, and create "fearless, raw improvisations"
- Seattle Times
James Falzone: clarinets, piano
Ha-Yang Kim: cello
Tom Baker: guitars and electronics
Greg Campbell: drums, percussion, horns
Taking its name from the Japanese word for "the space between two structural parts," Matrio is an improvising collective featuring Greg Campbell on percussion and horns, Ha-Yang Kim on cello, James Falzone on clarinet and piano, and Tom Baker on guitar, theremin, and electronics. With influences ranging from Olivier Messiaen to The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Matrio creates set-long experiences that explore the space between sound, noise, music, and silence.
