Astor Piazzolla’s iconic Nuevo Tango repertoire comes alive in the Royal Room with Seattle’s foremost authentic Argentine tango quintet “Tangoheart”. Performing the vast Piazzolla repertoire requires a clear stylistic understanding of traditional Argentine tango and the inclusion of his iconic instrument - the bandoneon. For this, Seattle’s Tangoheart is one of the rare North American groups that can deliver.
Tangoheart, founded in 1999 is an authentic classic “orquesta typica" which includes a piano, contrabajo, string section, and the bandoneon, the Argentine instrument with its emblematic tango sound. Through the years Tangoheart has performed in every major theater in the Northwest and is the favorite Puget Sound dance orchestra.
The group is led by bandoneonist Bertram Levy, who has spent the last quarter century immersed in the Argentine tango. The group’s driving bass lines belong to jazz arranger, performer and original Tangoheart member Andy Carr on the piano and the great Todd Gowers, Seattle’s bassist for all seasons. The string section includes world music specialist Ruthie Dornfeld on first violin and long time Seattle Symphony assistant principal violist, Dorothy Shapiro, on second.
When these great musicians take time out of their busy individual musical careers to perform this material as a group, it is always an event and not to be missed.
Please note: Tickets do not guarantee seating during shows at the Royal Room. For sold out shows standing room may be the only available space. Please come early to ensure you get a table.
