Nashville Skyline, released on April 9th, 1969, yet again shocked Dylan lovers with another departure from fan’s expectations. Loved and despised, the album was best known as being Dylan’s “country” record. Recorded with a who’s who of Nashville sessions musicians, the record has aged particularly well. It is best known for the radio hit “Lay, Lady Lay,” and the opening duo of “Girl From North Country”. As it turns out, it’s the rest of the record that really shines. Nashville Skyline may be identified as country, but in hindsight it’s really a record of Bob Dylan focusing his prodigious songwriting talents on the two and half minute pop song; and songs about love, and love lost.
