JESSICA LURIE / YOSHIE FRUCHTER QUINTET with Jessica Lurie (flute/sax) Yoshie Fruchter (guitar/oud) Joe Doria (organ) Jonti Siman (bass) and Tarik Abouzied (drums).
Jessica Lurie’s and Yoshie Fruchter’s music explores the liminal spaces between jazz, world-soul, Jewish and Middle Eastern funk, and avant-groove improvisation. Jessica Lurie, on saxophone and flute, is known for her “relentlessly eclectic” explorations of folk, funk, soul, rhythmic Eastern European folk music and improvisation-heavy jazz and groove. She performs regularly in Seattle with her Jessica Lurie Ensemble, Tiptons Sax Quartet & Drums, Living Daylights Trio, Slingshot among others. Yoshie Fruchter is a guitar, bass and oud player who has made his mark with a playing and composing style all his own. His latest project, Sandcatchers (oud and lap steel), explores the sounds of the Middle East combined with the American South. He is notable for his work in composing, performing and interpreting Jewish music and has constantly forged new directions with his music, regardless of genre. Lurie and Fruchter perform together in several NYC projects, including Zion80 and Freethiopiques. On Wednesday, August 7th at the Royal Room, these composer/performers are backed up by a stellar rhythm section of the virtuosic Joe Doria on organ, recent Brooklyn transplant, Jonti Siman on bass and Seattle’s favorite dynamic powerhouse, Tarik Abouzied on drums.
Please note: Tickets do not guarantee seating during shows at the Royal Room. For sold out shows standing room may be the only available space. Please come early to ensure you get a table. Reservations can be made for those who are coming for dinner as well as the show. The Royal Room is All Ages until 10pm.
